Common Questions
Curious, unsure, or new to therapy? We know that starting something new can feel daunting. Here are answers to the questions we hear most often, all in simple, supportive language.
What is Sandtray Therapy, and how is it different from other types of therapy?
Sandtray Therapy is a creative, non-verbal approach that uses sand and symbolic objects to help you express and process what’s hard to put into words. Unlike traditional talk therapy, there’s no pressure to explain everything, healing happens through gentle exploration, at your own pace.
Is Sandtray Therapy just for children?
No, Sandtray Therapy is for people of all ages. We work with children, teenagers, adults, carers, and first responders. Anyone who finds talking difficult, or who wants a creative, client-led approach, is welcome.
What happens in a session?
Every session is tailored to your needs. You’ll be invited to explore the sandtray, choose miniatures, and create scenes that represent your inner world. There’s no right or wrong way. Your therapist will guide you, listen, and help you reflect on what you’ve created.
Do I have to talk during the session?
Not if you don’t want to. Sandtray Therapy is designed for people who may find talking hard or overwhelming. You’re always in control of what you share, sometimes the sand says enough.
How do I know if Sandtray Therapy is helping?
We use simple questionnaires before and after a series of sessions to help track changes. You may notice shifts in how you feel, think, or react day-to-day. Many clients and families notice calmer moods, better communication, and more confidence at home or school.
Can I book just one session, or do I need a series?
You’re welcome to start with a single session. Some people choose to continue for ongoing support, while others just need a few sessions to work through a challenge. We’ll work with you to find what feels right.
What if I don’t like the feeling of sand?
No problem. We have tools and sensory items you can use instead, you never have to get sand on your hands if you don’t want to.
How much does it cost?
Introductory phone calls are free. Session fees vary by service, and payment options are available. We’ll always be clear about costs up front and answer any questions.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, flexible payment options are available. We understand therapy is an investment, and we’ll work with you to make it accessible.
Is your space accessible for people with mobility needs?
Yes, our space is accessible. If you have specific needs, just let us know before your visit so we can make your experience as comfortable as possible.
Can you work with my school, NDIS team, or other professionals?
Yes. We’re happy to collaborate with schools, support workers, and other professionals as part of your care (with your permission).
How do I get started?
Just book a free, friendly call. There’s no commitment, it’s simply a chance to ask questions, learn more, and see if this approach feels right for you or your family.
